Bringing your stories to life on screen…

From video case studies to edemos to corporate films, I have a great deal of experience of helping to bring stories to life on screen through mini-movies. Moving stories like this one, for BearingPoint:

Typically, I come up with the core storyline, craft the treatment and then develop the full script, working closely with animators and designers.

Here below is the script for a film telling Qinetiq’s story at the Farnborough International Airshow. There are no boring subjects, but every once in a while I get the opportunity to write about things that are literally out of this world. Expanding the possibilities of space exploration with a hyper fuel-efficient ion engine for example…

With Qinetiq, anything’s possible

[Open on black screen.]

[Words on screen appear:]

jet engine, sonar, radar, carbon fibre, LCD…

[LCD altimeter fades in: -1000 metres and rising]

[Voice over]

For over 40 years, we have been breaking new ground in science and technology…

…researching the things you wouldn’t think possible to develop the things you couldn’t imagine living without.

What of tomorrow’s breakthroughs?

We’re working on them, here and…

[Altimeter fades out. Slow-motion underwater explosion fills the screen]

…now. We’re applying innovations in directional explosives, originally developed for the Ministry of Defence…

[The explosion fades and recedes as we move up through the water]
[Altimeter fades in: -50 metres and rising]

…to help energy companies get more oil from under the sea.

We’re helping energy companies in other ways, too…

[Circling fish come into view]

When it’s time to decommission an oil platform, we can use our expertise in underwater noise to help keep local sea life a safe distance away…

[Altimeter approaches and passes 0 metres]

On sea…

and on land, we’re breaking new ground…

[Close up of road surface]
[Reveal road signs]

…with technology that tells a road operator when a road needs repairing…

[Ambulance enters frame]

…with a real time emergency support system that links the paramedics treating the patient to the A&E department…

[Continue heartbeat in ambulance sequence through to foetal heartbeats in pregnant mum sequence]

… with a foetal heart monitoring system that can distinguish the heartbeats of mother and baby, twins or even triplets in the womb…

[Close up of eye]

We’re adapting eye-tracking technology developed for fighter pilots to help detect dyslexia in children…

[Harrier jet sequence]

A Harrier jet can now take off and land with pinpoint accuracy…

[Altimeter: 50 metres and rising][Trimaran sequence]

…we’re using the same GPS-based technology to help make airport congestion a thing of the past.

We’re making waves in ship design, with our research vessel, Triton…

[Salisbury cathedral from the air]

…more fuel efficiency, more stability, more deck area – all thanks to one big leap in design: three hulls.

We’re developing an all-in-one base station for mobile phone operators that can blend in with its environment…

[Altimeter rising faster now][Airship sequence]

…a neat combination of our expertise in multi-function antennae and camouflage…

Combining cutting edge radar and airship technology to create quicker, better ways to detect landmines…

[Domestic airline sequence]

Making busy skies safer places…

[HAP sequence]

Replacing telecomms satellites with low cost high altitude platforms…

[Satellite comes into view]

Predicting space weather to reduce satellite damage…

[Beagle 2 comes into view]

Shrinking the communications on the Beagle 2 Mars probe…

[Altimeter zooms up; earth’s in the distance now]

Expanding the possibilities of space exploration with a hyper fuel-efficient ion engine…

From deep down in the ocean to way up in outer space, we’re achieving all kinds of breakthroughs in science and technology.

If we can do all this, just think what we can do for you.

[Words on screen]

With Qinetiq, anything’s possible.
