Be more Messi…

As Lionel Messi hangs up his international football boots, it’s a good time to take a leaf out of the Greatest Of All Time’s book. Specifically the page marked by his mantra ‘stay tranquillo’.

“Statistics suggest Lionel Messi topped the performance rankings at the recent World Cup,” says the FT’s Andy Haldane. “Yet they also show he spent two-thirds of his time on the pitch either walking or standing still. Less Messi was, it seems, more.”

In a world awash with slop, this strikes a chord. One that echoes the Dieter Rams dictat “Less but better“.

So let’s all be more Messi. Channel our inner Dieter. Do less but better.
